I work as a chef and ceramic artist in my own Studio Restaurant Tundra in Kuusamo, Finnish Lapland. Working with quality tools is essential for the realization of my creative visions in the kitchen as well as in the ceramics studio. Bergner’s top quality cookware and knives are tools I can rely on every day of the year.

Jarmo Pitkänen is a professional ceramic artist and chef, who has run his own restaurant in Kuusamo, northeast Finland, since 2002. Studio Restaurant Tundra comprises a private dining room, a ceramics studio and showroom, and a large professional kitchen also used to host cooking courses.

Pitkänen feels that ceramics and food have both always been an inseparable part of people’s lives, and they are also strongly tied to place. A carefully designed visual setting and the clear flavours of the northern ingredients are the building blocks for the Tundra dining experience, which culminates in handmade ceramic tableware and edible sculptures.

  • The dining lounge in my restaurant is decorated with pale yellow walls and ceramic sculptures. The idea is that the courses of the meal, together with the surroundings, form a unique artistic experience, Jarmo Pitkänen says.
  • In wintertime, the snow adds an almost magical feeling to the experience. That I take as a bonus.

In 2016, Studio Restaurant Tundra was the first restaurant in northeast Finland to receive a Chaîne des Rôtisseurs plaque.
