THE COOK & CHEF INSTITUTE FOUNDATION COLLABORATES IN THE FIRST NATIONAL MASTERD COOKING COMPETITION

Monday, 15 November, 2021

The Cook & Chef Institute Foundation, sponsored by Bergner Europe, a leading European homeware retailer, is an official partner of the first National Cookery and Pastry Competition organised by MasterD.  The renowned chef Carlos Maldonado, ambassador of the foundation, gave a talk as part of the final of the competition, in which he gave his particular vision of cooking and gastronomy. Bergner also provided products and material so that the competition could take place and as part of the prize for the winners, along with 40 other companies in the sector.

Thus, while the students were preparing their recipes, a special session took place with gastronomic experts who gave a 360º vision.

The MasterD School of Hospitality and Tourism launched its first national open cooking and pastry competition with the aim of providing an opportunity for growth to professionals in the sector, who need to continue to evolve in order to be competitive at a delicate time for the catering, hospitality and tourism industry. The centre has continued working not only to meet its students and the current demand, but has also committed to continue investing in order to provide the best open education in Vocational Training, with new courses, complementary modules and the creation of the new space 'Aula Cocina', multipurpose and versatile, to cover various services of the MasterD group.

The first edition of this competition was endorsed by the chef Pablo González Conejero, from the restaurant La Cabaña Buenavista (Murcia), with two Michelin stars and three Repsol suns, a collaborator of the MasterD School of Hospitality and Tourism since 2017. The Federation of Chefs and Pastry Chefs of Spain (FACYRE) also joined the initiative with the intervention of its director, Diego Olmedilla, who spoke about gastronomic marketing. On the other hand, Umalas & Moonlight Experimental Bar contributed their vision on the habit of cocktail consumption through bartenders Nacho Méndez and Borja Insa. The speakers, together with the pastry chef Manuel Asegura, the food critic Alejandro Toquero (Heraldo de Aragón) and Diego Gómez, head of the MasterD Innovation Model, made up the jury. The event will be enlivened by Raúl Gavín, head of Institutional Relations at MasterD.

The prize, for each category, consisted of a cash prize of 300 euros, a batch of gourmet products and a specialised gastronomy course valued at more than 2,000 euros. The 6 semi-finalists also received a batch of products in collaboration with the ambassador companies of the competition.
