"We must flee from posturing and advocate for real sustainability"

Last Tuesday, November 15, the awaited final of the "II Certamen de Cocina y Pastelería de MasterD" was held in Zaragoza, ambassador school of the Cook & Chef Institute and event sponsored by the foundation. The competition combined the excitement of the six participants and the inspiration of seven gastronomy professionals of the stature of Mikel Iturriaga, gastronomic journalist and director of El Comidista; Carmen Urbano, General Director of Innovation and Agrifood Promotion of the Government of Aragón; Rocío Arroyo, teacher and pastry chef; Jesús Almagro, chef of Omeraki; Manuel Vegas Lara, president of the Spanish Association of Hotel Managers (ADEH); and Javier Sansegundo, Founder of The Lemon Society. Attendees were able to enjoy a show full of the best gastronomy, sustainability, future and the latest trends in this exciting sector.

Sustainability and the future of the sector have been the leitmotif of this day. "We must flee from posturing and advocate for real sustainability: respecting seasonality, working with local food, being in contact with local producers and having an adequate waste policy are some of the efforts that the hospitality sector must make" shared Mikel Iturriaga, analyzing sustainability.

The judges of the contest had the opportunity to taste the elaborations of the aspirants. After a complicated deliberation, they gave way to the verdict:

The winner in the professional category was Fahed Aljaberi, from the MasterD School of Hospitality and Tourism with his sweet proposal of the "Enchanted Forest and Sunrise Over the Sea".

On the other hand, Juan Carlos Campo, with his proposal of "Arroz con leche turco al horno y Raviolones de ternasco al chilindrón", was the winner in the Amateur category.

The winners were awarded a lot of Premium Products, an economic prize of 300 euros and a course of their choice from the Escuela de Hostelería y Turismo de MasterD to continue training and develop their full potential. Undoubtedly, an exceptional day that brought together great talents and renowned professionals of the gastronomy of our country at the headquarters of MasterD in Zaragoza.

Congratulations to the winners Fahed Aljaberi and Juan Carlos Campo, and congratulations also to all the aspirants who have given their all in the kitchens offering dishes of 10 with sustainability as a key element.
