Biography

Sommelier Georgina Estrada Gil Outstanding Mexican sommelier, National Ambassador for the El Cielo Valle de Guadalupe BC wine-making group. She is the Vice-President of the Mexican Sommeliers Association (ASM), A.C., for whom she is one of the authorised instructors on the ASM-run diploma courses for future sommeliers. She is the Managing Director of @ginasommelier, a leading company in the wine and distilled drinks industry; for 18 years, she was the spokesperson for LOUIS XIII Ultra-premium cognac, from French company Rémy Martin; she was a lecturer on oenology at CESSA (Mexico State Campus University). She holds a Certified Level at The Court of Master Sommeliers. She has judged national and international sommelier and wine competitions.

  • Diploma as a Chef from the Belinglise Gastronomic Institute

  • Diploma in Coffees, Teas, Tobacco Products & Cheeses from the ASM.
  • She currently holds a Certified Level at The Court of Master Sommeliers. In her work as a Sommelier:
  • Vice-President of the Mexican Sommeliers Association (ASM), AC.
  • Through her company Ginasommelier, she organises, runs and operates events based around the wine and distilled drinks industry for premium brands.
  • She actively participates as a coordinator and lecturer for the various diplomas run by the Mexican Sommeliers Association (ASM) AC to train future sommeliers.
  • She is a member of the Wine Council for the Robb Report México magazine published by Forbes.

  • She is a columnist for the El Conocedor México magazine, writing about wines and distilled drinks.

  • She provides advice to various restaurants and wine/gastronomy-based businesses, offering training to the personnel, producing wine menus and making suggestions regarding distilled drinks.
  • Together with 4 colleagues specialising in the issue, she hosted the “El Gourmet Responde Vinos” programme on the El Gourmet channel.
  • She hosted the “Sommeliers Para Llevar” podcast for the news outlet Reforma.com for 5 years.
  • She has given a number of conferences and run tastings for tequila, cognac and whisky and mescal, among others, for private groups and embassies.
  • She has received significant recognition for her career and notable contribution to the world of the sommelier in Mexico.
  • She was sommelier at Le Cirque Restaurant in the Hotel Camino Real, Mexico City, from 2001 to 2004.
  • She was the columnist on wines for Food and Travel México magazine.
  • She placed second in the National Sommeliers Competition in 2004.
  • She was the alternate sommelier in the World Sommeliers Competition in Greece in 2004.
  • She was a lecturer on Wine Culture and Tasting at Anáhuac (Mexico North) University for the degree in Gastronomy and Hotel Industry Administration, obtaining a merit on 3 occasions for academic excellence.
  • She has participated in articles on wines and distilled drinks for specialist magazines, including Catadores, AMURA, Vino y Gourmet, etc.
